A new life for you and your young adventurer

Your new puppy is adorable. The pair of you are madly in love, but reality is starting to kick in. How do you teach your dog to wee in the right place … to bite toys not people … to focus on you, not the distractions of the world around you … to walk calmly on the lead … to come back when you call … to learn the thousand-and-one little things that set you up for a lifetime of shared joy and companionship?

If the scale of the challenge ahead seems daunting, you’ve come to the right place. My training classes show you how to get your new life together off to a good start.

These group training classes help you and your puppy become a team. They’re fun, practical, and inclusive because you learn with other puppy carers who want similar things for their puppies. And no one expects you to have any prior experience of training.

Puppy classes should never be a competition. In my classes, all puppies and their carers are winners. The classes are small – no more than three other puppies – so you and your puppy get far more individual attention. Fewer puppies means fewer distractions to help your puppy learn quicker. But we still have enough puppies for meaningful socialisation.

Puppy training class FAQs

  • Yes, in a carefully managed way that teaches your puppy appropriate social skills. Your puppy will be slowly introduced to the other puppies so they learn how to politely greet other dogs. At the same time your puppy will be taught how to listen to you around other dogs so they’re able to walk calmly past dogs and be called away from playing with dogs.

  • The classes take place at Washfield Memorial Hall (postcode EX16 9QZ) around 10 minutes drive outside Tiverton. The hall has a small car park, but parking is limited so I ask that you only bring one car per puppy to make sure everyone else has space to park.

  • There is step-free access into and around the hall and you can park right outside the entrance. Unfortunately there is no disabled toilet. If you have any other questions about accessibility send me an email to juniper@indigodogtraining.co.uk

  • You’ll need to bring lots of tiny tasty treats to reward your puppy. Your puppy will need to be on a normal flat collar and lead. If your puppy has a harness then it would be useful for them to wear it (I can give you advice on choosing the right harness for your puppy if you need help). If you can, bring a couple of your puppy’s favourite toys and a bed or blanket for them to lie on.

  • Yes, of course. I encourage everyone in the family to come along so you can all be involved in your puppy’s training. If your children might struggle to concentrate for the duration of the class I’d recommend bringing them a quiet activity to do so they don’t distract the other puppies.

  • You’ll still be sent the training plan for the class with the written instructions, videos and advice sheets. This means you and your puppy will be able to catch up at home on the training exercises you’ve missed.
